I know Cactus and Annie have already posted on it, but I must say thank you to the truckies. Because of the possible traffic disruption morning briefing today has been delayed till 10.30 which meant I got to sleep in till 8.00am. I feel like a new woman.
I am of course wholly supportive of their action because as has been pointed out all increased charges will be passed on to the user, and guess how all our food supplies get here. In F & B the standard operating expense for food costs is 30%, but we normally run at around 28% due to volume.
In the last 10 months however it has been a mission to keep food costs at the basic 30% due to increases in fuel and dairy, so cuts have to made elsewhere to preserve bottom line, and those cuts are usually in manning hours and basic pay rates. And guess who has to pick up the slack in staffing levels.
So, go truckies, go!

Bugger the rationalisations, thank you truckies for giving the lefties a nice hard kick in the bollocks!!!!
I did read this morning though that it's the first increase for 20 years & is 10%. I can't think of any other business that could say one of their regular costs has been static since 1988. If that's the case I think my sympathy is gone.
Yeah but the price of fuel has gone up as well as the road user charge, so a double whammy for them
RB at Public Address reckons the increase for a large truck that does around 100,000km per year is about $500pa. When you consider these trucks cost around $100.00 per hour to run it puts the increase into perspective.
don't really care, all it meant was that I got a lovely sleep in
anon & llb: It's not about the quantum it's about the free spending attitude that Labour & the Greens have to other peoples money.
From $500k a year for policy advisors on homeopathy through $5.5 million websites to $2 billion on redundant railway networks the electorate has had enough of the lefts complete lack of respect for taxpayers and their hard earned cash.
Oh my goodness, I don't know how to cope, you're all getting so, you know...political on me.
I just wanna know were if they all wearing their best Swandri's?
Swandris ? Swandris are far too expensive these days for truckies. More likely they were wearing cheap hoodies from Te Whare Whare.
